But when it comes to your readers, many will also like the option of buying an eBook. After all, they’re usually cheaper to purchase and easier to store. Plus, some people find an e-reader easier to read than a paperback or hardback as they can adjust the font size and use a backlight. So, if you’re planning to use a publishing platform like Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) to sell your book, it’s well worth including an eBook version. It won’t cost you anything to upload and, because there are no printing and delivery costs to consider, your return on each eBook sold will be greater – up to 70% of the retail price on KDP.

My Self-Publishing Packages include eBook conversion, but I also offer it as a standalone service from just £145. Using your PDF, InDesign or Microsoft Word file, I can provide you with a stylish eBook compatible with online sales platforms such as KDP (Amazon’s publishing arm), IngramSpark, Apple Books and Kobo. (The most widely supported eBook format is known as an EPUB.) If your book is mainly text, this will be provided in a reflowable format, meaning that the reader will be able to alter the size of the text and the font to suit their own preference. A fixed layout, on the other hand, can work better for illustrated children’s books and recipe books, where it’s preferable to produce an exact replica of the printed page when converted for the screen. The price for converting a file to a fixed layout is higher.
The eBook file can be provided with a hyperlinked table of contents and external website/email linking, seamlessly integrating footnotes, references and index links where relevant. Once you’ve received your file, all you’ll need to do is upload it to your chosen publishing platform and start selling.
