Book Marketing for Self-Publishers

Ideal for: authors who want professional help to kick-start their digital and print promotional campaign.

Price: £325 (or £295 for authors who have booked an additional service with me)

Book marketing is an essential element of the publishing process but it’s one that writers often feel nervous about. It can be difficult to know where to start on a book marketing campaign, especially if you are the type of person who doesn’t like to blow their own trumpet (and in my experience, writers often are). But look at it another way; by failing to promote your book you are also failing to bring it to the attention of people who will be genuinely interested in what you have written and why you decided to write and publish a book. In turn, this means losing out on potential sales and those all-important reviews.

Book Marketing Services

My affordable book marketing service is designed to kick-start your campaign and get you thinking about how you can continue promoting your book in the long term. With a background in local and national newspaper and magazine journalism, I know how to pitch a story and get it into print or online publications. For just £325 (£295), you’ll receive:

Some marketing companies promise to send out a press release to multiple media organisations/journalists. While this sounds incredibly promising, as someone who is on the receiving end of countless unsolicited press releases, I can assure you that most of these won’t be read or even opened. Effective marketing involves working out an angle and pitching the story to publications and journalists that are most likely to publish it. While gaining PR coverage can never be guaranteed, I’ve secured some form of media coverage for every author I have worked with in this capacity.

What I’ll need from you:

National Media

Unfortunately, it’s not possible for me to arrange national press coverage for every author I work with. Typically, I will target the press release at local news outlets relevant to the author’s location or at publications specific to their genre/subject matter. However, if there is a compelling human-interest story (also called a real-life story) behind your book, or even in your background in general, we can discuss it during the consultation and, should you decide you are interested in taking the story to the nationals, I will separately pitch it to them at no additional charge.

Here is a selection of press coverage achieved for my client’s book releases.

Alice Readman
mail online

Author Alice Readman approached me for PR assistance after the release of her memoir, I Am Alice: Break up, Breakdown, Breakthrough – A True Adventure Story. Following our initial consultation and my review of Alice’s book, along with hearing the moving story behind it, I recognised an opportunity to secure national coverage. Subsequently, I was commissioned to write an article for Mail Online, the world’s most visited English-language newspaper website.

jo dixon

As part of the marketing campaign for Dr Jo Dixon, with whom I published the memoir The Missing Link in Dementia, I successfully secured coverage in the Eastern Daily Press (EDP), a regional newspaper that covers Norfolk, northern parts of Suffolk, and eastern Cambridgeshire. The EDP is both a daily newspaper and has a strong online presence. Jo went on to publish her debut novel, Swimming in Circles, with Wrate’s Publishing, which I also helped to market. Jo’s publishing story can be read here.

mourina assoul
yahoo sports

The marketing campaign I ran for Oxfordshire fitness instructor Mounira Assoul led to articles being published about The Inflowfit Method on the sports news website of Yahoo!, and in the Oxford Mail and the Bicester Advertiser. Mounira’s publishing story can be read here.
